Anticipate Updates to PCA Concentrations

You’ll see a spotlight on safe use of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA).

It’s partly due to new “Standardize 4 Safety” (S4S) guidance from ASHP. This joins previous S4S guidance for adult and pediatric continuous IV infusions...and compounded oral liquids.

Recall that PCA can allow the patient to press a button to make a pump deliver doses from an IV prep for pain control.
