Help the Team Stay Afloat When It Comes to IV Fluid Overload

You play a key role to help avoid a flood of adverse events when it comes to preventing IV fluid overload.

Excessive IV fluids can lead to swelling, high blood pressure, etc. And certain situations carry higher risk (heart or kidney failure, critical care, pediatric patients, etc).

Expect the team to stop any unnecessary maintenance fluids. Keep in mind, patients who are eating usually don’t need extra IV fluid...and a patient’s parenteral or enteral nutrition may meet fluid needs.
