Expect to See Some "Controller" Inhalers Used PRN for Mild Asthma

Adults with mild asthma may get Symbicort (budesonide/formoterol) or Dulera (mometasone/formoterol) AS NEEDED.

We usually see these patients get albuterol PRN as a symptom "reliever"...and a daily inhaled steroid (budesonide, etc) as a "controller" if symptoms occur nearly every day.

Now guidelines suggest PRN use of combos with an inhaled steroid plus the long-acting bronchodilator formoterol...INSTEAD of albuterol.
