Some opioid errors can be ESPECIALLY dangerous.
Potent opioids (fentanyl, oxymorphone, etc) pack a big punch...even in relatively small doses.
For instance, IV hydromorphone 1.5 mg is about as potent as IV morphine 10 mg. Accidentally giving hydromorphone when morphine is ordered may lead to oversedation and dangerously slow breathing.
