Know Which Meds Are Used for Acute Migraine in the ED
You’ll see plenty of options when it comes to injectable meds for acute migraine in the emergency department (ED).
Expect patients to start with IV prochlorperazine. Anticipate seeing IV metoclopramide if prochlorperazine can’t be tried or isn’t tolerated.
But don’t be surprised if diphenhydramine gets added on. It helps limit certain side effects (spasms, tremors, etc) from both meds.
