Focus on Safety for Multi-Chamber Bag Parenteral Nutrition

Recent guidelines highlight safety considerations around increasing use of multi-chamber bag parenteral nutrition (MCB-PN).

MCB-PN is different from custom, compounded PN bags we’re used to seeing. They’re manufactured bags with 2 or 3 chambers containing amino acids, dextrose, and sometimes fats (Intralipid, etc) or electrolytes.

Mixing is easier...you break internal seals to combine ingredients and activate the bag. Plus MCB-PN can be less costly and time-consuming.
