Prepare to Stock Alternative Status Epilepticus Meds

You may be asked to stock more injectable antiseizure medications on units for patients with “status epilepticus.”

The longer these seizures last, the harder they are to stop...increasing brain damage risk. Benzos such as lorazepam are first-line...but we know it’s commonly on shortage.

Midazolam and diazepam injection are alternatives. Don’t be surprised to see more of these vials loaded on units.
