Stay Alert for Incompatibilities With PVC or DEHP

You’ll need to know when to use PVC-free and DEHP-free IV supplies during sterile compounding.

PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is commonly used to make IV tubing and bags (Viaflex, etc). DEHP, or diethylhexyl phthalate, may be used in combo with PVC...to make PVC containers more flexible.

But PVC and DEHP aren’t compatible with all IV meds. That’s why some meds must be prepped in PVC-free or DEHP-free containers.
