Expedite Treatment of Cerebral Edema
Patients with "cerebral edema" require STAT treatment.
This swelling that's caused by injury to the brain or spinal cord increases pressure inside the skull...or intracranial pressure. It can lead to further brain damage...even death.
Expect hypertonic saline (3% sodium chloride, etc) or mannitol (Osmitrol) to be used for cerebral edema. These meds reduce intracranial pressure by pulling fluid away from the brain.
