Giapreza Will Be a New Med for Sepsis Patients

You'll see angiotensin II (Giapreza, gee-ah-PREH-zah), a new IV "pressor" for boosting blood pressure in patients with septic shock.

We're used to dispensing angiotensin II receptor blockers, or "ARBs" (losartan, etc), to treat HYPERtension. Angiotensin II has the opposite effect...it treats HYPOtension.

Expect Giapreza to be saved for when patients don't respond well to first-line pressors...norepinephrine, vasopressin, and epinephrine.
