Some Central Line Meds Can Be Safely Infused Through Peripheral Lines

Some meds restricted to administration through central IV lines may get the "okay" for peripheral administration.

Central lines go into bigger blood vessels than peripheral lines...so meds get diluted with more blood. This can reduce the risk of damage to blood vessels and surrounding tissue.

But infusing meds through peripheral lines can prevent delays and complications (infections, etc) associated with central line placement.
