A recent near-miss will put focus on avoiding mix-ups between the acid reducer, nizatidine, and the muscle relaxant, tizanidine.

A clinician ordered nizatidine (Axid) instead of tizanidine (Zanaflex) for back spasms. Luckily, a pharmacist caught the error.

This mix-up isn't surprising. The med names have the same 10 letters, just rearranged...and nizatidine use may be on the rise due to recent ranitidine (Zantac) recalls.
