A new ULTRA long-acting insulin, Tresiba (treh-SEE-bah, insulin degludec), is hitting pharmacy shelves.

Tresiba is similar to Lantus (insulin glargine) and other "basal" insulins. They work about the same to lower blood sugar through the day.

The big difference is Tresiba lasts about 42 hours...compared to about 24 hr for Lantus or Levemir and a little over 24 hr for Toujeo.
