Prep Antibiotics for Inhalation With Preservative-Free Versions
Inhaled antibiotics may be ADDED to IV antibiotics for pneumonia.
Some antibiotics don't penetrate lung tissue well when they're given IV. Also administering these with a nebulizer delivers extra med to the infection site...and might improve the chance of treatment success in certain patients.
Be familiar with antibiotics that can be given with a nebulizer...aztreonam, colistimethate, tobramycin, etc. Your pharmacy may stock some commercially available inhalation solutions...but you'll need to prep others from injectable solutions.
